High Resolution Textures Free
High resolution textures are used in many applications. Web design, photo manipulations and other types of graphic design all often need quality high resolution textures. There are many free and premium sources of textures that can be used in both personal and commercial art and design projects. There is however often a difference in quality between a free and premium texture, although not always.
I personally offer lower resolution versions of my premium high resolution textures, for sale on sites like iStockphoto and Shutterstock, under a non-commercial creative commons license.
I do this partly just for the fun of it, as well as a way to network with other artists and designers.

The Difference Between Free And Premium Textures
Free textures often work just fine for small graphics, digital art or designs. With the high prevalence of free textures available on the Internet it's probably a good idea to look around for something that won't cost you anything if your end result will be small or more importantly non-commercial.
The problem with the majority of the free textures that are available Online is that most of them are inferior to the quality found in premium textures. From my own personal experience free textures that look fine as a thumbnail are often blurry and/or full of digital noise at high resolution. If the free texture was illustrated in Photoshop it will never have that professional look that the premium textures will always have. Another bonus to buying a premium texture is that each and every file is hand checked and either accepted or rejected before being put up for sale. The people who review these textures are experienced professionals who know what artists and designers really need.
Some artists and photographers, such as myself, offer their work free of charge at lower resolution, but require attribution. All of the textures offered in this hub were created by myself. I am offering them free under a creative commons license, for non-commercial work, but do require attribution wherever they are used.
